like I said I am not sure if that is true or not, as you hear stories about certain rockstars ie. Ozzy was said to not sing unless some animals were slaughtered (according to Ozzy in "I am Ozzy""., the roadies made up that story to piss of the animal rights movement) I mean I'm not sure if it's true that Manson took out his ribs to fuck himself

a portuguese tv station asked him that question once. he gave the obvious reply that everyone with 2 fingers of forehead could guess. "do you think i'd be sitting here straight if i had done that?" all the rumours come from inside the band to generate buzz around them. ozzy bit a real bat thinking it was a prop and was disgusted by it afterall nine inch nails would, in fact, screw up supporting acts shows by flooding the stage in lard and animal blood, though 
american slaughterhouses must have been happy in early 90's for the help discarding waste.
there's another funny story in which adolfo luxúria canibal stabbed himself in a leg during a show and while everyone was rushing to help him, people stole their instruments and gear
real fans right there.
but yeah, 95% of thosw rumours are just rumours, very few are true.
