the
zine (Twitter:
@MagazineOmbak) i'm w/ is looking to record interviews as part of a perks package for a couple crowdfunding accounts we're setting up. we're still working on fine-tuning our production process, but one aspect i'd appreciate some input on is what to do with the interviews when we actually have them ready to go.
our idea is audio-only for the time being, though ideally we'd move on to video someday. i'm pretty computer illiterate, but i know there's ways to do this that are better (read: cheaper) for running a page than others. any insight into optimal formats or platforms? streaming vs. downloads? there's all sorts of questions i don't even know to ask...
appreciate whatever feedback you fcukers can give me!

For clarification, are you asking about platforms for hosting audio files?
Do you know how much space you have on the server where the zine's website is hosted, and how much measured traffic is included in the host account? I was thinking, hosting audio only doesn't take up a huge amount of space when converted, but if there is not much data for monthly downloads, and there is reasonable traffic then you could easily shoot through the data limit.
Apologies if I'm not making much sense. I'm so tired

@nagoline @HumanDecay666 you guys probably know audio hosting reasonably well. Ideas?

I don't know a whole lot about audio hosting, but if you're looking to just putting a link to a third-party platform, I would just do a YT link will a still image. That would probably make storage easier on the site and you guys could probably benefit from having a YT channel anyways lol
If you're just looking for a way to get your audio hosted outside your site, Distrokid is a service I use to get my stuff on to various platforms. I recently learned about another site called Pod Bean(?) that's basically Distrokid, but for podcasts. I don't know Pod Bean's prices, but Distrokid is like $20/year for its base membership

for the record, we do have a YouTube channel up, but imo we're not leading w/ our best stuff, so you can ignore that for now

many podcasts upload to soundcloud and works great for hosting and streaming

soundcloud would have been my suggestion to, but I've not used it. Nag has though.

I've noticed that podcasters often use multiple platforms for getting stuff out there. Like some people won't use soundcloud for anything, but they will stare at yoububes with stock images.

quoting my friend;
"for interviews, i set aside a nice cafe room in the natl. library w/ a portable usb mic. interviews would be edited & processed on audacity using pop filter & equalizer plugins. the site itself is less than 100 mb. i run a mirror on ipfs easily enough."

tbh, as much as i'd like to get a handle on the technical side, i'm more concerned with his performance as an interviewer. i'd hate for our output to be a snoozefest.

It's something he can work on. Interviewing is tough. I remember my first live interview. Man, it was shit and I was pretty badly prepared.
I don't know much about IPFS, so I can't comment on it. Sounds like soundcloud and youtube would be a good way to go.

can either be a motormouth or monotone at times. he's fine conversationally, but i'm guessing the levels will either be low or all over & awkward pauses he won't edit out.
