@nagoline I think the phone does a better job than the webcam, but I don't think it's good enough for instructional videos that are meant for external consumption. What do you think? Which is better, and should I just give up and get a USB microphone?
Oopsies, forgot to link sample

Thinking of grabbing this

It'll be shit loads better than either recording option I have ATM. The client's office has a Yeti pro, which does a pretty good job, but there's too much ambient noise out there. My place is much better suited for recording.

you can always mess around with an equalizer, but if you have the income go for a proper mic of course

That's not the original recording. I used a compressor, filter curves (equaliser), limiter. I attempted to use the equaliser to bring out the bass and punch the highs a bit.
I don't really know anything about any of this stuff though.. so

the first one doesn't sound bad for what you want though

You think so? You mentioned playing with the equaliser. Did you have any specific thoughts?

yeah, as long as it's all clear and there's no "noise", it's fine

They thought the recording was pretty rad. I recorded it like 5am on an all nighter. I suppose not everyone has the same crippling, unrelenting standards that I have.
