Why I love synth/retrowave
I have been listening to almost nothing but for the last week. Lots of Gunship and MAVS + misc. Some of it is so cheesy, but I dig them audio aesthetics. Unashamedly synthetic music with pads and arpeggios, blatant pop hooks and vocals, and real or software modulars and patches. It's all vibrant and slick and retro but contemporary. And then there's the visual component! All those bright neon vectors and cheesy 80s references 8) It's all the best parts of 80s pop produced with better hardware and software, embracing the artifacts of then cutting edge, but limited technology that infused the sounds and visuals with an unmistakable signature.
I think it's this visual component that has got me back into physical media. I bought a couple of CDs this year, and it has been such a long damn time since I did that. But those plastic cases entombing those shiny slivers of plastic just aren't gratifying. Vinyl That's where it's at. Big pictures, big physical media that literally has the music etched onto it. I have ordered so much MAVS and a bit of Pertubator + Scandroid + Dubmood + other. I absolutely can't wait to get all these in, but the corona is seriously messing with international shipping.
If anything is responsible for turning me into a hipster it is synthwave.
Are you crushing on a particular genre rn?

Re: Why I love synth/retrowave
I really don't "crush" on certain genres but due to when I enhaled lighter fluid once. I ended up to listening to psychedelic rock and I finally found out that not all that type of music is " I communed with the all seeing eye, and floated off to space where I talked to God about life".
I mean "White room" by Cream is someone who ends up in a train station and takes some sort of drug and is literaly describing what they "see" :

Like this?
This is the soundtrack to anime. I had no idea it was a distinct genre, but I know almost nothing about Japanese music. There is so much music in the world No one can eat it all.

Our generation as elderly people is going to be interesting. Will 90% of us lose our interest in all these weird music genres and spend our days concerned about the state of the lawn and watching tv soaps? Maybe our quest for new things will help maintain neural plasticity and we will be a generation of elderly ubermensch

that's an interesting theory. maybe we'll find out if we're not fighting to eke out existence in the post-apocalypse or dead from global human heat death

I don't really think I'd lose interest in the music. It will still be with me, even after I die I'd be haunting juke boxes playing "The Pogues" and other type of music I listen to or pissing off people like by Simon Cowell (who might have taken over/ruined radio) by playing said music over the waves while the poor sods run round like headless chickens trying to find out why "their type of music isn't heard"zombie wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 3:00 pmOur generation as elderly people is going to be interesting. @dreamshell It would be sweet if politicians started treating global warming seiously. I want to spend my old age doing what I'm doing now, not worked to death in a labour camp to make glass domes for jerkfaces.
@nagoline that's lies
@Helloween_1985 having goals is important
@Sean2K I'd say put on a shirt, but ain't up to me how you listen to your records. Nice vinyl

Re: Why I love synth/retrowave
two synth channels that r pretty much always playing (sliders work so you have abt 12 hrs of material to sift thru at any given moment), some hits some misses

Re: Why I love synth/retrowave
Some of my synth arrived. I paid way too much for the scandroid but it's almost impossible to get. There are so many to buy and ordering internationally hurts.
